For some ridiculous reason, you can go to the site on BBC.co.uk for this documentary, and even see where they stream it. But they block you from being able to watch it if you’re in the US. If you’re in Canada I bet you can actually watch it.

Fuck them, here it is anyway. Covers Amon Düül II, Kraftwerk, Can, Cluster, NEU!, Conny Plank, Popol Vuh, etc and their influence on mainstream rock like Bowie and Eno!

  1. thanks ian. i was just about to watch it on youtube, where it is streaming, but this will be better.

  2. I saw this when it was broadcast, it's good but could have done with being a bit longer

  3. Another quality post. Thanks!

  4. I agree, it glossed over a lot of things. Like, no Malcolm Mooney? Makes it sound like Can started at TAGO MAGO or something. No Ash Ra Tempel? etc.

  5. Thanks alot for this. It's a nice little overview but i must say that the failure to acknowledge/mention Conrad Schnitzler is pretty rediculous and shocking.

What a find! The narrator is Jon Ronson, author of Men Who Stare At Goats. Thanks a ton for sharing.

  6. ha! take that BBC iPlayer.in the UK, it was watchable on the stream but when downloading it they only let you keep it for 30 days – had visions of running my PC through my elderly VCR just to record a copy too keep, thanks for saving me the trouble!in agreement with the others, this was a great and overdue show in terms of an overview of the Greatest Musical Genre In History, but did kinda skimp over key figures like Gottsching, Schintzler and Mooney, and probably loads more you could mention. also, watching Rother talk about Neu! was a bit like hearing McCartney talk about The Beatles, you get the vague suspicion that you're only hearing the rose-tinted side of the story now that the more caustic, no-bullshit Lennon (or Dinger) is no longer with us…and that's my first comment on this blog, as good a place as any to start…I ended up here a few days ago via a google for Schulze's Cyborg, and my eyes pretty much popped out of my head at every single page of your blog. Honestly, dude, you're instantly up there with the greats (Mutant Sounds, Dualtrack, Brad Miller) in my estimation. Been spreading recommendations around for my friends to drop by here.keep up the great work,Alan, Edinburgh

  7. Thank you very much for posting this. I wanted to share a link to the the October 16th BBC4 show Synth Britannia. I'm looking forward to watching both of these shows on the plane this weekend.

  8. YO YO THE ONLY REASON YOU GUYS CAN WATCH IT FROM ANYWHERE OUTSIDE BRITAIN IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE BBC YOTV LICENSE YATHATS WHY HUH
